I had heard good things but unfortunately I didnt have a good experience. First of all, this is a pricey restaurant which doesn't bother me but does mean that I expect a little more. I had sushi for dinner and my wife had the beef tenderloin. The sushi was easily the worst sushi I've had in more than a year. I'm a fairly experienced sushi eater but the bottom line is that I didn't get the sushi that was described on the menu and the pieces were smaller than average. My wife's entree was the beef tenderloin. The menu description failed to mention that the bed of vegetables on which the beef sat, were very spicy. So much so that she considered sending it back. We would've liked to talk to our waitress about our food but she was so busy that we didn't get a second look. The reason this place gets 2 stars instead of 1 is that our drinks were pretty strong. In summary...2 people, 2 sub par dinners and 2 drinks = $100 plus tip for a lackluster dining experience.

I went back to Basmati's recently and it just wasn't as good as it was before. The service was still good, but the food wasn't particularly great. We got the calamari which I realized we got last time as well. This was not very good - cold, overbattered, tough fried calamari. The dipping sauce is alright though. We also got the crab cake which had some interesting flavors, but the texture was off - it was just too mushy (not sure why - maybe too much filler and not enough killer). The menu was pretty much unchanged from what I could tell so none of the other entrees really stood out again (this happened last time and I just ended up getting multiple apps). I remember the fried rice being pretty good though so I just went with that. The fried rice is tasty and definitely a large serving, but it is still $20 for fried rice which is a bit absurd. Overall, it was just a bit disappointing this time around. The food was not up to par - especially considering the high prices. I want to like this place, but it's getting a little hard to. 2.5

My wife and I drive to Destin once a year for a week of camping at Henderson Beach and the highlight of that trip is dinner at Basmati's. The salad's are unique and delicious, mine had home made pickled vegetables and wasabi peas, the sushi is among the best we've ever had and the nightly special of fresh fish was fixed perfectly. The atmosphere, the service, just right. The memory of that meal will have to last until next year. Incredible.

Our favorite restaurant to visit while in Santa Rosa. Although there isn't a beach view, the serene, zen-like atmosphere is a lovely change of pace. I consider myself a sushi connoisseur, and it rates up there with some of the best sushi I've had. The rolls are unique, using local fresh fish in many of them. Love Basmati's!!

I SO wanted to like this place, but it failed to impress. The food was mediocre at best, and while our server was friendly, the service was incredibly slow. Despite having a reservation, we still had to wait at the door for several minutes before being seated. The table hadn't been set yet, so the busser came by and dropped off the silverware. He chose to hand them to us to lay on the table. It wouldn't have phased me much if he hadn't been putting his fingers all over the bits of silverware that were not the handles. We then waited close to 20 minutes before we had anyone visit our table to take our drink order. Worse was the wait for our dinner to arrive. We were in the restaurant for approximately an hour before our food was delivered. The food was overpriced and the sushi serving sizes were significantly smaller than anywhere else. Of all the restaurants I've dined at along 30A, this is the first one that I have to say I will not revisit.

My favorite restaurant on 30A. It's a great change of pace from the typical beach fare, with high end sushi and other well executed Asian dishes. Great porch too.

Just went for lunch, so I can't speak for dinner. It was really good. I was prepared for run of the mill Asian food at the beach, but everything was quality. I can't say that about 95 percent of the places I eat out at. I ordered stir fry beef with basil and it was filet mignon! You never see that in California for a $9 lunch entree. The sauce was amazing. I have no idea how to make an Asian sauce, but I have eaten quite a few and mostly they taste like cornstarch. This tasted like a complex beef demi glace with all kinds of depth and interesting flavors. The jasmine rice was perfect and even the veges tasted fresh although they were not all my favorite vegetables. The menu sounds a bit uninspired and limited upon first glance, but I think that in the simplicity comes a great shining star on 30-A.

One of the best restaurants on Highway 30A... Red Curry Shrimp and their Red Snapper entrees are my favorites

This is absolutely my favorite restaurant when I'm down in this part of Florida. The food is amazing - delicious and innovative. The sushi is divine, and the regular menu items are consistently great. Service has always been top notch. My favorite is to call ahead for a reservation and request to sit out on their screened-in patio. It's so quiet and peaceful outside, the candles create a lovely ambiance. It's not a cheap meal, but it's worth every penny in my opinion.

Wonderful zen like atmosphere with great Happy Hour daily specials between 4-6 p.m. and friendly staff. Sushi is great. Wonderful Spring Rolls and Main Entres are wonderful.

From the opening greeting of "Do you have reservations?" to being seated with a wine list, martini list, sushi list, but no menu. To the waiter completely forgetting to order my entree. A completely horrible experience. Too bad because the spring rolls and fried squid were excellent. Theu recovered by chomping what we did have, but too late to save the meal. This place would be helped by some professionalism and hospitality. No one smiled or made eye contact the whole time we were there. Very disappointing!

My husband and I love to eat at Basmati's. The sushi is fresh and tasty. Their daily specials always knock our culinary socks off. Last night we enjoyed a beautiful dinner on the porch at Basmati's. Cool breeze, delicious martinis, fresh fish prepared several ways -- delightful. Our meal included unagi and hamachi nigiri, a signature maki roll The Volcano (for which we requested extra spicy aioli), and the spicy crunchy-creamy shrimp roll. We followed all this sushi with the day's special, very lightly panko-crusted fresh snapper filets that were pan-seared and served over sauteed veggies with a side of Basmati's rice. Every morsel was delicious. The service was prompt and cordial. Now is the perfect time to visit South Walton. The crowds are thin, and the temperatures are beginning to drop as well. Be mindful that Basmati's inside seating is extremely limited; most of the seating is outside on their screened in or open air porches. Dress accordingly or come well after sunset, particularly if you visit in the crush of summer. Be sure to make a reservation and specify if you prefer to sit inside. Of course, I suggest that everyone who comes to our Emerald Coast during the summer crush take advantage of the opportunity to make dinner reservations. Why wait an hour in a restaurant parking lot when you can be lounging in the surf?
